Philosophy

We’re dog people!

We don’t believe in a "one size fits all" training, and frankly, you shouldn’t either.

Your dog has individual needs. Together, we will craft a training plan that meets those needs in a fun, low-stress environment.

Schedule a discovery session with one of our trainers. We'll meet with you and your dog to discuss goals and objectives. Together, we'll determine which training option is the best fit.

We offer traditional options that include small group classwork to reinforce socialization and create a solid foundation for skill growth, one-on-one private training, as well as training options that incorporate dog daycare to allow for skill training that meets your dogs' individual needs.

Creating positive associations will lead to long-term success for your dog and your family!

One-on-one training paired with dog daycare provides a multi-faceted approach to training and socialization skills. Pet parents are provided with daily updates to apply new skills to daily life!

We offer small group class work to reinforce socialization and create a solid foundation for skill growth. Classes are available for all ages and skill levels, including CGC Prep and enrichment/life skills.

Whether you're welcoming a new puppy, working on good manners, preparing for the Canine Good Citizen test, or looking for help with behavior challenges, our training team is committed to making training a positive, rewarding experience that strengthens the bond between you and your dog.

Our trainers are Fear-Free Certified and use science-based training methods to ensure that you and your dog enjoy your training time together, making for an enjoyable and positive experience for dogs of all ages and skill levels!

Daniel, Head Trainer

Hi, I'm Daniel Huesman. I've been a Professional Dog Trainer for nearly nine years, helping dogs and their families build trusting, lasting relationships through positive, reward-based training. My goal is to create a low-stress learning environment where dogs can gain confidence while owners learn practical, effective skills they can use every day.

I've been proud to be part of the Cedar Run Company team for more than a decade. Throughout that time, I've worked with dogs of all ages, breeds, and personalities, from energetic puppies to dogs with more complex behavioral challenges. I believe every dog deserves patience, understanding, and training that supports both their emotional and physical well-being.

My qualifications include being Fear Free Certified, as well as an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator, a graduate of the Animal Behavior College Dog Trainer Program, and Pet CPR & First Aid Certified. I enjoy continuing my education and staying up to date on the latest science-based training methods so I can provide the best possible experience for both dogs and their people.

Madi

As a certified professional dog trainer, I am dedicated to helping dogs and their families build strong, lasting relationships through trust, communication, and positive reinforcement. I earned my certification through Animal Behavior College and am a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and Fear Free Certified Professional Trainer. I also hold an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration Management from Kirkwood Community College.

I have been a part of the Cedar Run Company team for over 7.5 years, where I have gained extensive hands-on experience working with dogs in a variety of settings. I began my career as a daycare attendant before advancing into kennel operations and later working at the front desk. Each role gave me valuable insight into canine behavior, handling, health, and client communication, creating a strong foundation for my career in dog training.

For the past six years, I have specialized in group training classes, daycare and training programs, and private lessons. While I enjoy working with dogs of all ages and temperaments, I am especially passionate about helping nervous, fearful, and rescue dogs gain confidence and learn to trust both their owners and the world around them. Watching these dogs grow into happier, more confident companions is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

My love for dogs extends beyond my career. At home, I share my life with five large dogs, four of whom are rescues, along with my energetic four-year-old daughter. Living with multiple rescue dogs has given me firsthand experience with the patience, understanding, and consistency it takes to help dogs thrive. Those experiences continue to shape my compassionate, individualized approach to training and strengthen my commitment to helping every dog and family succeed together.

Stephanie

I've had a passion for dogs for as long as I can remember. My journey began as a teenager, volunteering alongside my mother at a local animal shelter, where I discovered the need for dog training. After my kids graduated, I decided I would focus on my love of dogs, earning my Dog Trainer certification through Animal Behavior College and began my professional career working at a board-and-train facility, specializing in behavior modification and obedience training. Over the years, I expanded my experience by teaching group classes, providing private lessons, and eventually managing a daycare and boarding facility while continuing to work one-on-one with clients and their dogs.

In January 2026, I chose to further my education by enrolling in an intensive Master Dog Trainer program at Highland Canine. There, I gained hands-on experience working with pet dogs, service dogs, police K-9s, and scent detection dogs, giving me a well-rounded understanding of canine behavior and learning. Recently I moved back to Iowa with my two dogs, my 4 yr old German Shepherd and my 5 month old chihuahua mix.

My philosophy is rooted in the LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) approach. I believe every dog is an individual, and successful training comes from building clear communication, trust, and a training plan tailored to each dog's unique needs and each family's goals.

My mission is to help owners develop confident, well-mannered dogs while strengthening the lifelong bond they share. Whether you're welcoming a new puppy, working through behavior challenges, or advancing your dog's skills, I'm committed to providing practical, effective, and compassionate training every step of the way.
